Irish Homing Union

The Irish Homing Union (IHU) has been regulating and promoting the sport of pigeon racing in Ireland since 1895.

Union president:  Eugene Fitzgerald
Union general secretary:  Brendan McLoughlin
Union treasurer:  Paddy O’Neill

The IHU is the longest established governing body for pigeon racing in Great Britain and Ireland and has 3,318 members in 121 racing pigeon clubs across 19 counties.

The Supreme Council is responsible for the management of the Union, and is the final arbitrator in disputes within the membership.

Regions

The governing body of the Union is called the “Supreme Council”, and it consists of a president, secretary and treasurer, plus six delegates from each of two administrative areas, known as Regions.

For day-to-day administrative purposes the Irish Homing Union is divided into two regions, the North Region (Northern Ireland) and the Southern Region (Republic of Ireland).

Each Region issues its own racing pigeon rings.  All Irish Homing Union racing pigeon rings bear the internationally recognised code “IHU”.

The North Region racing pigeon rings, in addition to the international code “IHU” also include the letter “N”, and the owners of all such racing pigeon rings are registered with that Region Secretary:

Jimmy Hughes, 44 Ashbourn Pk., Lambeg, Lisburn, Co. Antrim. BT27 4NS.
